Event Ad

A color full-bleed ad promoting s surfing fundraiser, created with a scanner and Microsoft Word.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles):

I scanned the surfing image with an Epson Scanner and added the box and text with Word’s design layout. I made the Title the biggest to draw attention, then the Time-Date-Place second biggest to draw viewer’s attention to the most important information, then the miscellaneous information smallest. Used the eyedropper tool to select the dark blue of the wave and apply that color to the shape. Programs used in this process: Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner, PDF2JPG.net.

This fundraiser is for those who surf or enjoy watching surfers. Money raised from this competition goes to help people living in isolated areas of the world.

Anyone in or near Santa Cruz wanting to help contribute to the charity. Surfers ages 16 to 40, and any age for spectators.

Color scheme and color names:

Monochromatic blue with an accent of red

Top Thing Learned:

I learned how to use Microsoft Word to carefully design a layout.

Title Font Name & Category:

Robato Condensed- Sans Serif

Copy Font Name & Category:

PT Serif- Oldstyle

Scanned images used, sources, original sizes, location of scanner used:

This image was scanned from the 167th Issue of Digital Photographer magazine. The original size of the image was 9 1/2″ by 12″, so there was minimal re-sizing to make it fit into an 8 1/2″ by 11″. The final image scan size was 959 by 1242

  1. Awesome image! I’ve heard that people are attracted to blue images, I don’t know if it’s true, but all of the blue in your ad really catches my eye. I like your monochromatic color scheme! The fonts are simply…I always like that. And I like that there is a good amount of information so I can really understand what the event is.

Here’s another monochromatic blue ad I saw: https://taylorstevensblog.wordpress.com/2016/05/14/project-2-event-ad/
